Athlete Feature: The Rise of Reese Esponda

If you’ve been following elite gymnastics, Reese Esponda is a name you definitely know. Her path to the top is built on years of hard work, huge upgrades, and serious dedication.

From a 3-year-old taking her first class to a standout Senior Elite, here is Reese’s story as she prepares to head to LSU!

Building the Foundation

Reese began gymnastics at age 3 at Gym 406, falling in love with the sport while watching Gabby Douglas at the 2012 London Olympics. In 2021, she moved to Roots Gymnastics to build her elite foundation. That same year, she made her elite debut at National Qualifiers, going on to compete at the 2022 Hopes Classics and Hopes Championships.

Stepping Up to Junior Elite

In 2023, Reese officially made the jump to Junior Elite. She earned spots at both the U.S. Classic and the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, while taking home 1st place on floor at the American Classic.

The Senior Elite Era & WCC

In early 2024, Reese switched to World Champions Centre in Texas. Her Senior Elite debut was a huge success:

International Debut: Earned her first assignment at the Baku World Cup.

All-Around Champion: Won the Senior All-Around title with a 54.900, placing 1st on floor and 3rd on beam this past July.

Paris Olympics: Named a traveling alternate for Team USA.

What’s Next: LSU Tigers

Next up, NCAA gymnastics! Reese has verbally committed to join the LSU Tigers. I am excited to see where her college career takes her along with eyes on LA 2028.
