Gymnast Salute: My Life Flipping Through The Air

I was bored one day so I started writtingabout my gymnastics journey and then was like this should just be a book. I am beyond excited to finally share a project that has been close to my heart for a long time. Gymnastics is more than just a sport to me; its how I’ve seen the world since I was seven years old. Today, I am thrilled to announce that I am officially working on a book detailing my gymnastics story, hoping for it to release soon.

A Different Kind of Start

Many gymnasts start in "Mommy and Me" classes at age two, but my path was a bit more unique. I actually walked into IK Gymnastics for Occupational Therapy because I struggled with crossing my midline. What began as a way to overcome a physical challenge quickly transformed into a passion for flight.

From those first therapy sessions to recreational classes, and eventually joining my first competitive team at Dreams Gymnastics in 5th grade, the gym became my second home. Whether I was training at Wilmette Gymnastics or competing across the state, every coach and teammate helped shape the person I am today.

More Than Just Scores

While my competitive career ended in May 2024, the numbers and accolades are things I carry with pride:

  • 4x State Qualifier

  • 2023 Regional Qualifier

  • 3x Bar Champion (including a career-high 9.725!)

But this book isn't just a highlight reel. It’s about the "dreadful" mental blocks, the pressure of a sport that demands perfection, and the grief that comes when you finally hang up the leotard. It’s about how I transitioned from being the athlete on the floor to a coach and a USAG certified judge, finding that I love guiding the next generation just as much as I loved sticking a landing.

"Scores don't matter—it's the process that matters. It will take time, and you may not get it on the first try, but always keep going when things get hard."

The Next Chapter

Currently, I am a student at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, majoring in Physical Education and minoring in Coaching. Between my studies and running Gymnast Salute, I am pouring my experiences into these pages to paint a picture of dedication and hard work.I want this book to be a guide for the gymnasts who are in the sport.

I’m not leaving the gymnastics scene—I’m just seeing it from a new perspective.

I hope you’ll flip the page with me when the time comes. Stay tuned here on the website for updates as I dive deeper into these chapters!

Forever and always a gymnast,

XOXO, NatNat
