What Camp at Flip Fest is like

Updated: May 16, 2024

We drove to the airport at around 5 am on Sunday, July 31st, 2022, and Sunday, July 23rd, 2023. My team and I boarded a flight from Chicago to Nashville. We then drove to Crossville, Tennessee, to Flip Fest Gymnastics Camp. Upon arrival, we checked in, did evaluations, and headed to our cabin. We met our camp counselor and cabin mates for the week. At 3:30 pm, we had opening ceremonies where coaches were introduced, camp rules explained, and groups formed based on our skills. After the ceremonies, we had dinner, went to the lake, participated in camp activities, and then returned to our cabin for cabin check.

On Monday, we woke up at 7 am for breakfast, then went to the gym for practice at 8:45 am. We warmed up, got assigned to groups, and started our rotations. The morning session ended at noon, followed by Olympic speeches and autographs. In 2022, I met Svetlana, Chris, Brody, and Shane. In 2023, during Week 6, I met Carly Patterson and Blaine Wilson, and during Week 7, I met Maggie Nichols and Brett McClure. After speeches, we had lunch, lake time, and camp activities. At 3:30 pm, we had afternoon practice, followed by open gym, dinner, a camp dance, and cabin check.

Tuesday began at 7 am with breakfast, followed by Special Guest Photos. I met Svetlana, Brody, Chris, and Shane in Week 9 of 2022, Carly and Blaine in Week 6, and Maggie and Brett in Week 7 of 2023. After photos, we had morning practice, lunch, lake time, and activities before afternoon practice. Another open gym session followed, then dinner, a haunted hike (which was super fun), or a movie night. We ended the day with a cabin check.

Wednesday allowed us to sleep in until 8 am. After breakfast, we followed our usual routine: morning practice, lunch, lake time, activities, and afternoon practice. I stayed for extra practice at the open gym, then had dinner, s'mores, and games in the gym before returning to the cabins for cabin check.

On Thursday, we woke up at 7 am for breakfast and followed our usual practice routine. We had lunch, lake time, and activities, and then we packed up. The afternoon practice was followed by open gym, dinner, and a skit night and dance performances. Finally, we headed back to the cabins for cabin check.

Friday began at 7 am with breakfast and final packing. We then attended the closing ceremonies where coaches and staff gave high fives, awards were handed out, and we said our goodbyes. This was the saddest part for me. After the ceremonies, we had a light warm-up and did one or two events before our parents picked us up.

In conclusion, Flip Fest Gymnastics Camp is amazing! I've attended for the past two summers and loved every moment. The coaches and gymnasts are wonderful and supportive. If you're looking for a fun, helpful, and unique camp experience, this is the place to be. "Love many, trust few, and always paddle your own canoe." Flip Fest Gymnastics Camp.
