Imagine a place that does not involve the stress of the judges pen. Instead, you are in an environment that is filled with chalk, cool breeze off the lake, and the presence of hundreds of gymnasts and many NCAA gymnastics coaches cheering you on as you learn a new skill in the foam pit. Welcome to summer at Flip Fest.
Flip Fest is located on a private lake in the hills of Crossville, Tennessee. This famous camp was founded by two Olympians, John Roethlisberger and John Macready. While in gymnastics competition, the season is defined by routines, deductions, and pressure. When you come to Flip Fest, this is the opposite: Flip Fest has a saying: "Love Many, Trust Few, and always paddle your own canoe," and Gymnasts progress fastest when they are having the time of their lives. FLIP FEST WHUT WHUT!!!
As someone who has attended this camp, Flip Fest is run at a high, intense energy all week. You get there on Sunday, and you lose your voice by Friday when you leave. It was one of my favorite camps, and I still use everything I learned to this day. At this awesome camp, I got over a mental block, and that shows they help you get over yours while you have an unbelievable time with gymnasts. LET'S dive into the high-energy vibe!
1. The Rhythm of the Camp: High Reps & High Hype
A day at Flip Fest is honestly awesome while combining elite-level technical progression with pure, unfiltered camp energy. The schedule is designed to keep athletes moving and having an amazing time.
The Arrival Ceremony in the Gym & Hype that does not stop
The energy starts at maximum volume. When you get to camp, you are already screaming at the opening ceremony. Music is blasting, and camp counselors, staff, and coaches are hyped. From fueling up for a heavy day of training to the chaotic, high-energy gatherings outside the Canteen, campers are constantly surrounded by a community. Before you even touch the equipment, you're already motivated to give it your all. In this environment, it doesn't matter what level you are or how many medals you won last season; everyone shares the exact same passion for throwing themselves through the air.
The Training Blocks: Where the Gym Becomes a Laboratory
Inside the massive Flip Fest training gym, the regular-season grind disappears. You aren't endlessly drilling routines to fix tenths. Instead, the focus shifts entirely to upgrades, progression, and having an awesome time.
Without the fear of a judge's pen, the gym becomes a home away from home while you are at camp.
You are in the hands of some of the best staff, specialized pit training, and Olympic and NCAA guest coaches watching your form; the gym becomes a playground. You're allowed to trial-and-error your dream skills without the pressure of perfection. Under this guidance, you aren't just training; you are playing. And that relaxed, playful mindset is exactly what makes a scary skill suddenly feel completely possible.

2. The Flip Fest Secret Sauce: Why It Works
How does a single week in Tennessee unlock major breakthroughs that athletes have struggled with for months at their home gyms? It comes down to a total shift in sports psychology and camp tradition.
Destroying Mental Blocks with Peer Support: Mental blocks thrive on isolation and overthinking. Flip Fest helps you overcome them. When an entire rotation of new friends and NCAA stars is screaming at the end of the runway, anxiety turns into pure adrenaline. Your brain switches from "What if I crash?" to "I can't wait to try this." I can tell you that this is true
The Power of a Fresh Cue: Sometimes, hearing the exact same correction phrased differently by a new coach is all it takes for the lightbulb to go off. Flip Fest brings together some of the best coaches in the sport to give athletes those exact "aha!" moments.
The Legendary Color War: You can't talk about Flip Fest without talking about the Color War. This camp-wide, week-long team competition turns teammates into family and pushes athletes to give their all, proving that gymnastics is at its best when it’s fueled by team spirit and high energy.
Unplugging on the Lake: The magic doesn't stop when the chalk is washed off. From launching off the lake blob and paddle boarding to going on the outdoor rope course. The lakefront allows gymnasts to clear their minds, recover their bodies, and just enjoy being kids.

Ultimately, Flip Fest proves that champions aren't forged through stress alone. True athletic growth happens when elite confidence, a lakefront community, and the pure joy of the sport come together. It reminds athletes exactly why they fell in love with flipping in the first place, sending them home with upgraded skills and an unstoppable spark for the season ahead.
