Arkansas Gymnastics: The Brooks Era Starts Now

The Gymback Evolution: Chris Brooks Takes the Helm at Arkansas

The Arkansas gymnastics program is entering a brand-new chapter. Following the conclusion of the 2026 season, Jordyn Wieber announced she was stepping away from her head coaching role to focus on her family and new personal goals. In a strategic move to maintain the "Gymback" momentum, the university promoted Chris Brooks to Head Coach.

Chris Brooks is no stranger to the Fayetteville gym. He served as the primary bars coach and assistant under Wieber for seven seasons. His deep knowledge of the program's culture and his track record in technical development make him the perfect person to lead this transition. He isn't just taking over; he’s building on the foundation that turned Arkansas into a top-20 threat.

A High-Caliber Coaching Staff

Brooks has wasted no time ensuring the program stays competitive. He has put together a powerhouse coaching staff:

  • Chris Brooks (Head Coach): An Olympian with nearly a decade of NCAA coaching experience, Brooks is widely respected for his ability to elevate bar and vault rotations.

  • Kyla Ross (Associate Head Coach): A legend in the sport, Ross brings elite-level technical expertise and a world-class championship pedigree to the staff.

  • Catelyn Branson (Associate Head Coach): Coming over with experience from the Nebraska program, Branson adds significant value to the staff's strategic and developmental planning.

  • Zan Jones (Assistant Coach): A standout from Alabama, Jones rounds out the team, focusing on the high-energy, detail-oriented work required to stay competitive in the SEC.

The Vision for 2027

Brooks has been clear: the "heart, soul, and vision" of the program remain unchanged. With a staff that possesses this much combined experience—from Olympic backgrounds to successful collegiate coaching tenures—the Gymbacks have everything they need to continue their upward trajectory.

Arkansas has become a program that consistently breaks school records, and the shift in leadership is designed to ensure that success continues. By promoting from within, Brooks provides the stability the athletes need to keep their focus on the podium. Keep a close eye on Bud Walton Arena; with this new-look staff, the Gymbacks are already laying the groundwork for a massive 2027 season
